Abstract

Les mappemondes des paravents nanban, au nombre d’une vingtaine entre 1590 et 1630, offrent, au‑delà de leur beauté formelle, de précieuses indications sur l’état des connaissances géographiques des Japonais à la fin dudit « siècle chrétien ». Mêlant des sources diverses, surtout hollandaises, chinoises et japonaises, elles constituent une véritable hybridation des savoirs.About twenty Nanban world map screens were produced between 1590 and 1630. They are not only beautiful, they also provide precious information about the situation of the geographical knowledge of the Japanese people at the end of the so called “Christian Century”. Based on Dutch, Chinese and Japanese sources, they constitute a real hybridisation of knowledge
