espanolEl final del siglo XVI en Japon fue una epoca convulsa en la que varias facciones en un mar de alianzas cambiantes pugnaban por conseguir la supremacia. Tres grandes personajes aparecen en esta epoca, cuya labor conjunta consiguio unificar el pais y crear un periodo de relativa paz: Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi y Tokugawa Ieyasu. En este articulo hacemos un repaso de cuatro conjuntos caracteristicos que tomaron parte en la contienda: las elites locales, los samurai, figura iconica de Japon; los ashigaru, tropas profesionales que, al final de este periodo, adquieren el rango de samurai; los legendarios shinobi, mundialmente conocidos como ninja; y los sōhei, un colectivo heterogeneo de monjes guerreros. Hablaremos sobre el origen de cada una de estas figuras, su formacion militar, su panoplia y su papel en la batalla; finalizando con una mencion sobre su destino una vez terminado el periodo de guerras EnglishThe last XVIth century in Japan was a tumultuous period in which several factions in a sea of changing allegiances strove for achieving supremacy. Three great characters appeared in these times, whose joint work managed to unify the country and created a relatively calm period: Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. In this paper we will look over four characteristic groups who took part in the fray: the local elites, the samurai, an iconic leading figure of Japan; the ashigaru, professional troops who, by the end of this period, achieved the samurai status; the legendary shinobi, worldwide known as ninja; and the sōhei, a heterogeneous guild of warrior monks. We will be speaking about the origin of each one of these figures, their military training, their array and their role in battle; finishing with a mention about their destiny once the war period was over.
